What does an EV charger installation cost in San Diego?
Every home is different, which is why our assessments are free. Here's what most San Diego homeowners can expect.
Level 2 charger install
Depends on your home's electrical setup, how far the charger is from your panel, and how fast you want to charge.
Install + 200A panel upgrade
Common in homes built before 2000 that need more capacity. Total includes the upgrade.
We'll give you an honest price based on your specific situation — not a one-size-fits-all quote.
Do I need a panel upgrade for my EV charger?
Maybe. A Level 2 EV charger requires a 24–80 amp dedicated circuit, depending on the charger. If your home has a 100-amp panel (standard in San Diego homes built in the 1980s and 1990s), there's a good chance it can't handle the additional load safely.
We perform a load calculation to determine whether your current panel has capacity or whether a 200-amp upgrade is needed — so you never overspend on an upgrade you don't need.
Signs you might need a panel upgrade
- ⚠Your home has a 100-amp or smaller main panel
- ⚠You already run high-demand appliances (AC, pool pump, electric dryer)
- ⚠Your breaker panel is full with no open slots
- ⚠Your panel is a Federal Pacific, Zinsco, or other recalled brand
